Centreville Bank, a community bank with 27 locations across Rhode Island and Connecticut, sought to modernize their MPLS WAN network to support their Cloud migration strategy. The bank faced performance, visibility, and flexibility challenges with their existing provider. They partnered with Veritium to transition the bank into a modern, flexible SD-WAN environment.
Their Challenge
No network visibility: Limited insight into circuit health, or traffic flows made troubleshooting slow and reactive.
Low bandwidth/high cost MPLS circuits: Fixed-bandwidth circuits could not efficiently support Cloud adoption or growing application demands, impacting user experience.
Declining provider service and support: Reduced responsiveness and accountability from the MPLS provider increased operational risk.
Inflexible, locked-in architecture: The tightly coupled MPLS model restricted the bank’s ability to evolve or optimize its network strategy.
Implementation Timeline: Following completion of the bank’s internal approval and budgeting process, the bank had a 12-month window to design and implement the new solution across more than 27 locations before the expiration of the existing MSP contract.
Our Strategy
Best-of-breed architecture: Integration of optimal circuit options, enterprise-grade SD-WAN, and managed services—rather than a single-vendor bundle.
Decoupled, modular design: Circuits, SD-WAN technology, and services were intentionally separated, enabling future changes without network redesign.
Hybrid management model: Veritium manages day-to-day operations while providing the bank full access and real-time visibility into the network.
Financial services expertise: A structured deployment approach ensured a smooth transition with minimal disruption in a regulated environment.

at the Edge
Veritium helped the bank implement a solution that fully met its requirements. The solution provided complete visibility into the WAN for monitoring network and application traffic, enabled a hybrid management model that balanced provider support with the bank’s ability to make its own network changes, delivered true SD-WAN capabilities with integrated edge security instead of a traditional hub-and-spoke internet model, and supported a decoupled, best-of-breed network approach rather than a single-vendor contract.
The implemented solution delivered a substantial performance improvement across the organization, providing retail branches six times their previous bandwidth and increasing connectivity to the core provider’s datacenters by a factor of twenty. In parallel, the design enhanced high availability and disaster recovery capabilities for all retail locations and core datacenters. Architected to support the bank’s strategic migration to the cloud, the new network also proved significantly more cost-effective than the legacy MPLS environment. These savings enabled the bank to reallocate budget toward a best-in-class, 24x7x365 managed security services provider (MSSP), representing a meaningful upgrade to its overall security posture.
